Fit After Thirty Healthy Insights

A few years ago I met a guy who was much younger than me, and for whatever reason, he was convinced that I was the girl for him. (I wanted to believe it was my uncanny resemblance to Cindy Crawford, but it could have been my unwillingness to live in reality that he liked).

Anyway, as nice, cute and giving as he was, every time we were on a date, I felt like I was with a boy and not a man, and I just didn’t feel the chemistry. I kept thinking that if I continued spending time with him, my feelings of attraction would grow. After all, as a person, he had a lot of qualities that were appealing to me, so I really wanted to like him in that way. But after a handful of dates, I couldn’t do it anymore. I know you’re wondering what that has to do with cauliflower, so I’ll tell you.

Cauliflower to me, has always been the one vegetable I could never acquire a taste for, no matter how much I want to like it because of its health benefits.  I’ve tried cooking it in different ways, but with every attempt, I still found it unpalatable. I finally gave up, because I was tired of choking down a side dish I hated.

But recently, while perusing one of my favorite sites, Kitchen Table Medicine, I was once again reminded of the awesome cancer fighting components in cauliflower, and determined to re-incorporate it into my diet. Indole-3-carbinol is credited with helping to remove the harmful forms of estrogen in both men and women, which accumulate from years of consuming pesticides and chemicals in our food and environment. These damaging forms of estrogen (or chemicals mimicking estrogen) can cause reproductive cancers in both men and women, hair loss, and erectile dysfunction, to name a few.

If one little indole-3-carbinol can counter all of that, maybe I should be in a loveless, passionless relationship with cauliflower after all. Well, good thing for me, my friends at Kitchen Table Medicine have provided cauliflower and me with a little relationship therapy so that we could bridge the communication gap and find the spark that never existed before. (Turns out cauliflower was completely blameless in the whole thing and it was all my taste buds’ fault!) Either way, this yummy recipe, that includes even more ingredients with anti-cancer properties, is one that will allow me to partake in a relationship with cauliflower once again!

This new success with cauliflower almost makes me want to give it another try with the boy-man. Nah. I think KTM’s relationship miracles only work with food.
