About six weeks ago, I noticed that my left boob sags slightly more than my right boob. I do not have implants nor any other high risk factors for developing lopsided Lulus, (pregnancy, breastfeeding, mutant ancestors). I did not know that disproportionate droop could happen to natural boobs, as I only associated this problem with Tara Reid, whose famous implants have been the focus of a lot of media attention. I am also not really sure how long this has been going on with me. I’m assuming it has been a gradual process caused by years of wearing substandard sports bras.
At first, I wasn’t sure if I was imagining the uneven sag. I blamed it on my weird bathroom lighting. But after conducting highly scientific experiments in front of no less than 5 mirrors in my house with all variations of light – including natural sunlight through the spare bathroom window, and a flashlight in an otherwise pitch black room, (yes, really), I determined that indeed, left sista hangs unapologetically lower than her right sibling. There was no false assessment at play here. Angles, lighting, wall shadows ( I was hoping), bad eyesight – none of them qualified as reasonable explanations any longer, because indeed, my boobies are crooked.
Could it really be that my lazy, left little girl is the victim of bad sports bras through the years? I believe so. And because I don’t want the same fate to befall any of you (pun fully intended), I thought I would explore the sports bra topic.
In the last five years, some real advances in sports bra technology have been made. And because of my dedication to the cause of maintaining perky pecs as long as you can, I share with you our favorite sports bras in no particular order:
*f.a.t. Michelle’s top picks:
*Champion C9 Seemless Tank- Why she loves it: It’s cut high on top so when you run, your boobs don’t flop up and peek out. The way it is cut around the arm pit prevents chafing. The thin straps prevent big tan lines.
*Nike Dry Fit tank- Why she loves it: it’s very fitted with small straps. Again, avoiding big tan lines. The full belly coverage hides the loose skin she has from her two pregnancies.
*f.a.t. Suzy’s top picks:
*The Suzanne bra is technically, not even a sports bra but supports better than many sports bras I’ve tried. It was designed for maximum support for big busted women, and even though I only have B cups, I want D cup level support! I wear this under a t-shirt and sometimes even double it up with a sports bra over it for really high impact activities.
*Nike Zip Front bra – For bigger busts it probably isn’t enough for high impact workouts but for A and B cups it works well and is super easy to remove!
*Berlei Shock Absorber Women’s High Support Cross Back bra – little to no breast movement even when jumping or running.
*Bendon Sport Max Out High Impact Underwire bra – A racer back with rear hooks! How cool is that? It makes for easy adjusting. It holds them in place and comes in pretty colors! I like the pink one. Bendon doesn’t sell on their site.
*lululemon Bounce Breaker - If you don’t know this company with the funny name, it’s time to get acquainted with it. You’ll be seeing that name a lot on this site because I love ALL of their fitness clothes!
For Big Busts: This doesn’t apply to your friends here at Fit After Thirty, but for 32C and bigger, we’ve heard great things about:
*Bendon Sport Extreme Out High Impact Underwire bra – same as above, but for bigger breasted women.
*Enell Sports Bra. Oprah and many big busted celebrities use this one!
*Saucony Nexus bra for sizes C/D/DD. Zips up the front for easy removal! Holds those suckers in place! You can buy it at:
*Anita Molded Sports Bra 5527 – My friend said she no longer has chaffing with this bra!
