200 Recipes Under 200 Calories!

I’ve recommended HungryGirl.com in the past, and I’m about to applaud her again for her new book, 200 Under 200, (200 Recipes Under 200 Calories).
I saw Hungry Girl on The View demonstrating some of her new book’s recipes, and the best part is, they were all quick and easy to prepare. These are not froo froo gourmet, recipes made from hard to find ingredients. She takes regular grocery items that most of us already have in our refrigerators, and combines them to make simple, pleasing, low calorie meals and snacks!
One of my favorites is the cheeseburger quesadilla which uses a whole grain tortilla, cheese, and Boca brand Soy burgers. All who taste it says it does satisfy a craving for a cheeseburger. Some of the recipes get quite creative with the ingredient list, while still retaining the flavors that you are used to in the standard recipe.

Smoothies Are A Mom's Best Friend!

Growing up in Arizona, I was indoctrinated into the belief that fruity, sweet slushy beverages are God’s nectar, not so much by what my mother said, but by what she did. Let’s just say, the blender was her favorite appliance, and also her closest ally in the never ending quest to keep five kids and their friends hydrated during the sweltering summer days of our childhood.
It can be hard to convince adults, let alone kids, to leave the swimming pool long enough to guzzle a glass of bland water when they don’t feel thirsty. But throw ice and any bright liquid in tall, plastic mugs with straws sticking out of them, and watch what looks like a mass exodus from a body of water that rivals any beach scene from Jaws.
My mom wouldn’t have to say anything; all she had to do was bring the smoothies outside, set them on the mini lawn tables, and step back to avoid the stampede of dripping bodies as we raced from the pool to get the glass that was filled the highest.

Saved My Bony Booty From Starvation!

My life the last couple weeks have been crazy busy with family, travel, work, love life and training obligations that have made it difficult to plan my meals in order to fulfill my yin-yang-balancing diet promises to my Chinese Witch Doctor.
So rather than break the diet and mess up the progress I had made on balancing my chi (yes, I know it sounds soooo new age), some days I ended up subsisting on an apple or an orange for an entire meal. It was quick, easy to transport, and could be eaten en route to the gym or airport or wherever!
However, you can only do that so long before your muscles say: “Hey bitch-feed me more or quit making me do so many damn lunges and ab exercises on that freakin’ ball.”

Get Fit With The Best!

I am so excited to be able to deliver this information to all the Fit After Thirty Moms out there! I have found a truly great opportunity for two lucky moms to jump start their fitness goals with the help and inspiration of Bob Greene, Oprah’s trainer, while helping a video game company launch a fitness product!!!! This requires no purchase of anything, and is not a gimmick to get you to buy the product. I assure you of that!!!!
Moms must live in the Los Angeles area and be willing to communicate with the media about their experience, and if you are chosen, Fit After Thirty will provide you with the forum to do just that!
Ammo Marketing, a San Francisco-based company, is currently working on a fitness-based product launch, and are conducting a search for two moms between the ages of 25-45 by Wednesday, February 11th, 2009. As of yet, they have still not found the right moms!
If you are a woman who does it all for everyone else, but might need a little help taking care of herself, this opportunity is for you!

Flower Petals Need Trimming? Fix Your Vag, Madge.

Get your Pure Insanity Journals out everyone, because it’s time to make another entry! For all those new to this activity, this is where we jot down the latest story that provides concrete proof that we’re all going completely mad. I’m kind of hoping that there won’t be enough stories to fill the pages of our journals, but at the rate we’re going with high heeled babies, and women opting out of what it is to be a woman, I don’t think we’ll even need to fill the journals to make the diagnosis stick.
Today’s topic just may be the clincher. I’ll summarize with one sentence: Perfection-obsessed women take their self-loathing out on their vaginas by turning genital mutilation into a sport that society now calls “Vagina Reconstruction.”
Have you heard of this, ladies? This is the latest and “greatest” in cosmetic procedures that our esteemed medical community is pushing on society, with promises to “correct” and “perfect” the vulva of any woman naive or insecure enough to pay for it. If it weren’t for the fact that women are lining up in droves for these surgeries, I would think that “Vag Repair Services” as a business model was a joke conceived by a high school business economics class filled with sixteen year old boys who were still waiting to see one for the first time.

Be *f.a.t. In Style

One thing about writers is that we have immense fascination with the meaning behind words. And it is especially exciting for someone who operates a health and fitness blog, to learn that the meaning behind the name of a fitness company that we all know and love, actually stands for one of the same principles that Fit After Thirty was founded on! Fit After Thirty is not only the redefining of fat, but our asterisk graphic logo embodies the idea that the body, mind, and spirit are interconnected, and to be truly fit and healthy, you have to be healthy on all three of those levels!!
ASICS is an acronym for the latin phrase: Anima Sana In Corpore Sano, which means, “a sound mind in a sound body.” And since we at *f.a.t. talk so much about mind and body, I thought it would be appropriate to suggest two ASICS apparel items that will help you start checking off items on your *f.a.t. Fitness Resolutions list!

*f.a.t.-Friendly Menus From Your Favorite Spots

In keeping with my New Year’s theme of trying to get you to think of fast food differently in 2009, I’m passing along a great resource from Dr. Gourmet. He has created menus from popular fast food restaurants with the healthiest options from each menu. He has handpicked the items from each restaurant that average about 400 calories and have 15 or fewer grams of fat.
The menus are downloadable and easily printed, so you can take them with you. I suggest just leaving them in the glove compartment so you have them conveniently at hand when you are out. This way, if you have to eat fast non-food, you can at least make the best choice possible for your health. Remember, many fast food meals contain more than an entire day’s worth of calories, so for those of you trying to see some real weight loss success this year, little efforts with your fast food habits can go a long way!
Enter Electronic Motivation!

Okay gals, for all of you who don’t have a workout buddy to drag your saggy booty to the gym when you’re feeling lazy, I’ve got the answer for you! You can register this under the “what will they think of next” column in your imaginary diary chronicling all things weird in cyberspace.
Weight Nags is the latest creation by some well intentioned, clever techies (who didn’t get the memo that “fatty” means Fit After Thirty Hotty), to aid others in their quest to stay in shape. For those who respond best to a little tough love when it comes to motivating you to follow through on your commitment to yourself to stick to your workout schedule, this might be the answer. Here’s how it works:

Keeping Fit And Losing Weight Just Got Easier!

We, at Fit After Thirty, believe that it’s much easier to lose the fat and get *f.a.t. if you set goals for yourself, and track your progress on your way to achieving them! Since a study by Gail Matthews, of Dominican University, proved that writing down goals, making a commitment, and having accountability, improves one’s chances of accomplishing them, I looked for a tool that would help you do those things, so that you can start 2009 off on the right track!
Check out this article and FREE downloadable workout log from AnswerFitness.com. Whether you are newly starting out in a weight loss program, training for your second marathon, or just wanting to take your fitness program up a notch, this is a great tool!

I’m Too Sexy For My Water Bottle
I’m getting ready to start a trend. It’s called water bottle as fashion accessory. I figure we match our purses to our outfits, so why not our beverage bottle to our sports clothes, office attire, and beachwear? I think I’m onto something because water bottles are already so popular a trend in and of themselves that they made #76 on Stuff White People Like. I really think using them as a fashion accessory could be a nice evolution of our love of water bottles. It could be the next true measurement of chic! Besides, isn’t it time for those boring, clear and blue plastic things to go the way of teased bangs, and ripped collar-sweatshirts?
