Chug A Chug A Choo Choo! All Aboard!

Mark this down as a VERY happy *f.a.t. day for me!! Why? Because one of my favorite *f.a.t. topics is finally being addressed by Oprah! I’ve talked before about bio-identical hormones and in my mind, they are the key to the locked door of all health mysteries for both men and women! They are also the key to women staying horny, vibrant, healthy, sexy, and happy, after the age of 30!!

I have been hoping with all of Oprah’s talk of recent thyroid issues, that bio-identical hormones would be on her radar so she would spread the word, and it looks like my wish is coming true in a big way!

The reason I’m so excited, is because when Oprah lights a match, the fire spreads fast and furiously, which means a lot more women will be exposed to, and educated about, the influence that bio-identical hormones can have on their health!

She introduced the topic on Thursday’s show with the promise to continue discussing it on future episodes, which I am over the moon about, because it is far too important a topic to cover in just an hour. During the show, she interviewed Robin McGraw (Dr. Phil’s wife), and two OBG docs who specialize in keeping women hormonally balanced.

Oprah’s emphasis on this topic is a big win for women who have been the recipients of the “one size fits all” approach from most of their medical professionals!

My feeling has always been that most of the ills and age related disorders that ail us are related to hormone depletion and imbalances, and are far too often treated with an approach that only addresses symptoms, rather than the true cause.

After selling anti-depressants for years, I came to believe that far too many women were experiencing depression as a symptom of undiagnosed hormonal imbalances, which, if corrected, would often eliminate their need for anti-depressants. I’m ecstatic that those with power to bring that message to women, en masse, are doing so!

One of the main reasons for Fit After Thirty’s existence is to address health and fitness concerns that women generally don’t face until after 30, so this new light that is being shed by Oprah on these matters, means that more women will realize that being fit on the outside is dependent on being fit on the inside. Men too, can benefit from this information, because not only do they often have their own imbalances, but they suffer when they are with women with mood disorders and diminished libidos that go untreated!

If you missed the show, check out the O Magazine this month, which also addresses the topic. And set your Tivo for Oprah on January 29th when Suzanne Somers is her guest. I’ve praised Suzanne in a previous post for getting the ball rolling on this topic long ago!

I want to let you know that I love your site. Although I’m not 30 yet, I’m a few years away and being informed about things like this is important for me so I won’t become afraid of turning 30 which most people do. Keep providing us with wonderful information. Thank you!

Many people missed the show due to the Hudson River, but I just found it on Youtube… this blog http://cosmeticmdnation.blogspot.com has it too.

Hi there, love your blog and just had to comment on this one. It’s amazing to behold the power of Oprah. I have gotten a crash course education in bioidenticals over the past 48 hours. It’s amazing. @Alex, thanks for the you tube clips — I missed that show. If anyone is going to bring up bioidenticals with their doc now, I did find a good article about how to broach the topic: http://www.womentowomen.com/bioidentical-hrt/talkingtodoctor.aspx

Are Bio-Identical Hormones Safe?

The WHI study showed that synthetic, chemically altered hormones such as Provera cause cancer and heart disase.

However, the bio-identical hormones do not cause increased breast cancer as shown in the French Cohort study published in Climacteric, Dec 2002.
