Remember the second big sexual revolution? The one in the 90’s, when the little blue pill was developed for men, allowing their limp snakes to slither and hiss again, when they had lost the power to do so on their own? Well, get ready for a third revolution, because the female version of a similar drug might be just a couple years away from hitting the market. (I’m still working on what the equivalent to “pop a pill, pop a boner” would be for a chick). If you have any clever thoughts on the matter, please let me know.
In the meantime, here are the facts. The drug company Boehringer Ingelheim is currently conducting clinical trials on a drug, Flibanserin, that is said to affect brain chemistry in such a way that it can turn frigid into frisky.
Sexual arousal can be influenced by adjusting serotonin and dopamine in the brain. By decreasing serotonin at certain receptor sites, it affects the dopamine levels, which in turn, can increase sexual desire.
The fine balance between brain chemicals and the correlation that they have to sexual arousal and sexual response is why many people taking anti-depressants lose their sex drive and/or ability to have orgasms.(Read about other causes for low libido here.)
The sexual arousal enhancement drug takes the same knowledge about human brain chemistry, and applies it to helping women get horny. In fact, this drug was originally tested as an anti-depressant when they found it did little for depression but increased libido. (That would be a good start to getting rid of depression, if you ask me!)
No word yet on whether this pill treats the kind of libido loss that occurs when people are just sick of their annoying mates. There is also no word on whether those of us who have healthy sex drives would become complete raging, sex addicted nymphomaniacs by taking the drug. Husbands and boyfriends can only hope! Get your blue pills ready, men. Hiss Hiss.

It’s interesting how much time and effort the pharm companies have put into erectile dysfunction drugs, while women have been left out in the cold.
After my wife’s libido plummeted following the birth of our daughter, we started trying out different supplements.
Passion Rx has been the best for us so far, but it’s not perfect, because she builds up a tolerance to it fairly quickly.
Hopefully one day, the playing field will be leveled, so that women will have as many options as men.
Cheers!
