If anyone doubts the existence of a higher, supreme intelligent power I have the evidence to convince you otherwise: berries. How cool is it that some of the tastiest foods found in nature are also some of the healthiest for us? I know it has to be God’s way of compensating for His egregious error in creating the cauliflower – a healthy food, but an awful experiment with flavor, if you ask me.

So let’s comb through the berry evidence of His existence.

Exhibit A: Goji Berries – If a cranberry and a cherry could mate, the result would be a goji berry.  In addition to having all of the amino acids, carotenoids, vitamins and minerals you could ever want, it also has the ability to make the pituitary gland make human growth hormone, which is a vital youth enhancing hormone that normally decreases with age. All of this adds up to one hell of an anti-aging food.

Exhibit B: Acai Berries – For all you red wine drinkers that are drinking it for the health benefits you may be interested to know that the acai berry has as much as 30 times the amount of the photochemical anthocyanin found in red wine. Anthocyanin has been found to be key in preventing heart disease. Now you can just admit you drink red wine because it tastes damn good and you like the buzz, while drinking acai juice for your health.  For complicated reasons I don’t claim to understand, the berry only comes in juice form in the United States. It’s a little tart so some people like to mix it with sweeter juices. Just an ounce gives you all the health benefits found in a variety of vitamins, amino-acids, and anti-oxidants. It is said to have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties as well.

Exhibit C: Cranberries – Research shows that components found in cranberry may prevent bacteria, such as E. coli, from clinging to the cells along the walls of the urinary tract and causing infection. I can tell you from personal experience that in pill form, they work wonders in preventing urinary tract infections, and sometimes nipping them in the bud if taken when the first symptoms appear.

Exhibit D: Blueberries – They should be part of your daily breakfast, if you ask me! They contain anthocyanin, which is said to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. They contain pterostilbene which is an antioxidant said to help prevent colon cancer. They also subdue free radicals, which can damage cell membranes, which causes problems associated with aging.

I rest my case. Are you a believer yet?
